Summary: Spira is caught in a vicious cycle of death and held captive by a corrupt religious order. A small group of pilgrims thought they had found the only way to break free. But a chance meeting between two of the world’s greatest warriors — Nooj the Undying and Sir Auron, the legendary guardian — will change the course of history.

Notes: Written collaboratively with Ikonopeiston (kunstarniki). This story comes out of an idea that we’d been tossing around for almost as long as we’d known each other: what would happen if Nooj and Auron met? How would they interact with each other? Because of the difficulties involved in fitting a meeting of any significant length into canon, this story is AU. It is set during time of the Crimson Spheres and diverges from canon right after the events of Crimson Record #), or shortly before Operation Mi’ihen in the FFX timeline. Most of the characters in the main casts of both Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2 are featured, along with a selection of original characters from previous stories by both authors.*

This AU springs from the backstories used in The Confessional, which was our first collaboration, and picks up partway through 197S.9.23.

The title is from a poem by Dylan Thomas.
